African Grey

We do raise these. We have both Congo pairs and Timnehs.

This is Skipper, a very intelligent 21 year old Timneh. He is our keeper of the main floor. He knows what goes on, what should be there and who should not. He often takes pride in telling Chloe, the boxer, to kennel up or go outside, or telling the kids to go to bed. His vocabulary is quite impressive as it only takes him a couple of tries to learn a new word.

These pictures are of a baby Timneh grey, Scotty.

Picasso is a Congo that was a breeder. He is quite pleasant and quiet, but prefers not to be handled. For the first time in almost 6 months, Picasso talks...He said "Hey, whatcha doin?...HELLO!" He also lets me scratch his beak a bit now. He has also ALMOST quit picking feathers. This is as feathered as he has been in Months!.

Congos~ there apparently is a debate on whether there are three different species of African's or not. From what I have found, there are two.

The Timneh African Greys, above, are smaller, a little easier going and more adaptive. The Congos have two different sizes~the regular size that is just bigger than a Timneh, and a much larger, often red-factored version, the Cameroons. Cameroons come from a different region in Africa but are actually Congos. They just have some different coloring and variation on sizes.

We have one large pair of Congos that are almost twice the size of the Timnehs and regular sized Congos. They also have the red flecks throughout their feathers.

We also have a pair that has a very large male, Sam, and a petite little hen, Sweetie, that produce nice big babies.
